ETPS - Electro Therapeutic Point Therapy Combination of Eastern & Western Medicine using the principles of acupuncture, musculoskeletal trigger points, neuromuscular & neural therapies. The Neurostimulator applys low frequency electrical stimulus of concentrated D/C (direct current – the current our body runs on) to specific groups of acupuncture, trigger & motor points to trigger the release of endorphins (body's natural pain killer). ETPS assists the nervous system in controlling muscle spasms, body temperature regulation & blood vessel dilation to regulate properly. It helps to rebalance the sympathetic (fight or flight) and parasympathetic (rest & digest) nervous systems. It is very effective in identifying the root causes of pain and results are usually seen within 2-10 treatments of about 10-15 minutes each.
ETPS Therapy works on several different physiological principles: 1. Circulatory Response Increasing or decreasing of circulation ( called "Chi" in Eastern Therapies) can benefit the patient in the same manner as the application of heat ( vaso dilation) and ice (vaso constriction) would for Western Therapies. 2. Autonomic/Parasympathetic Response The Autonomic Nervous System covers over 90% of the body, comprised of the sympathetic & parasympathetic nervous systems. It is the medium for chronic pain. The proper stimulation of parasympathetic "gates" can have a "calming effect" on the body while providing immediate & long lasting relief from pain, anxiety & insomnia. 3. Endorphin Response Endorphins may be released though concentrated low frequency ETPS stimulation. Endorphins are similar to morphine, but are thousands of times stronger and are not harmful to the patient. ETPS stimulation of neural points can excite the pituitary to release endorphins which release ACTH and Hydrocortisols for tissue repair. 4. Myofascial Release It is now known that chronic pain has its origins in Neuropathy - or functional alterations of the PNS. Neuropathy is always caused by muscle contracture and radiculopathy is neuropathy at the spinal root.
ETPS THERAPY: 6 principles 1. Gait & Body mechanics Irregular positioning of the hips create structural & mechanical imbalances throughout the body, leading to length discrepancies, asymmetrical movements of the body & degenerative joint changes. Manually correcting this gait prior to pain treatment can substantially reduce ANS & Myofascial tension throughout the body. 2. Radiculopathy & Neuropathy Refers to the impingement of nerves & the reduction in the flow of motor impulses throughout the nerve pathways. Correcting the source of nerve impingement using ETPS therapy can produce long-term benefits to the disease process and the chronic pain cycle. 3. Acupuncture Acupuncture meridians & key acupuncture points are essential features of ETPS therapy. Integrating acupuncture points into ETPS protocols after treating radiculopathy can provide a strong therapeutic response with many chronic patients. 4. Dermatomes The integration of dermatomes (nerve pathways) into ETPS protocols brings objective approaches to pain management. Patient's pain patterns may be correlated with known dermatomes, and then integrated with corresponding trigger & acupressure points. 5. Scar Therapy Invasive surgery slices through nerves, meridians, lymphatic, fascia, & circulatory systems has a wide effect on the body as a whole. ETPS therapy applied directly surrounding the scar can break up the scar tissue. 6. Concentrated Microcurrent Stimulation (CMS) Non-invasively duplicates the "De Chi" of traditional acupuncture therapy, (including nociception, endorphin, histamine & energetic responses) in a fraction of the time. CMS can relax contracted muscle tissue responsible for the nerve impingement(s) found with radiculopathy & neuropathy.
Myofascial Release Treatments are custom designed to benefit each client. Appointments may be scheduled multiply times per week for 2-4 weeks depending on your body's condition & your treatment plan. If multiple weekly sessions are not possible due to work (or ect.) then I highly recommend 2 hour sessions for bodywork. I feel that this work was my calling into my career of massage therapy.
Myofascial comes from the Latin words "myo" for muscle and "fascia" for band. The fascia is a thick elastic connective tissue in and about the muscles, bones, blood vessels and nerves of your body. The fascia spreads throughout the body in a 3-dimensional web which travels head-to-toe uninterrupted and acts as a shock absorber in the body.
In healthy condition, the fascia is relaxed and wavy in configuration with the ability to stretch and move without restriction. Physical trauma, scarring, stress, repetitive micro trauma, poor posture or inflammation cause the fascia to lose its pliability and this causes restriction and tension to the rest of the body. This myofascial restriction or tension does not show on any of the standard tests done today such as MRI, CAT Scan, EMG, X-Ray, etc. This myofascial restriction or tension is the underlying cause of most chronic pain problems that have not responded to traditional medical or surgical intervention.
For all Spa Packages and new clients there is a 50% fee for allcancellations without a 24 hour notice. Appointments will be held with a credit card (you may pay cash, local check or credit after your appointment). Sorry for the inconvenience.
